Welcome to the Orr Surname Project! This project is open to anyone interested in the Orr Family. On these pages, we will cover the Scandinavian origin of our haplogroup, the movement of our line into the British Isles, the adoption of Orr as an inherited surname, and the major branches of the Orr family. We will provide space for members to post their genealogical information, photos, Web links, and other information of interest to the project.

Spanning the gap between our deep history and today’s genealogy will be our DNA studies, based primarily on testing done at Family Tree DNA. As this is a surname project, we will focus mostly on DNA from the Y chromosome (yDNA). Closer to the present – the last five to seven generations – autosomal DNA (atDNA) may come into play. We will discuss the various types of DNA tests, how to interpret your results, and how you can join the effort to help in this project.

So, have a look around. My contact information is in the Contact Us link in the page header – let me know what you think. Contact me if you want space to post your information. Send me your ideas for making this site more useful. I am dedicating this site to the Orr Family; let’s work together to make it an excellent resource for all things Orr!
